Golden Girls DVD-catch them hot
The Golden Girls, an all American situational comedy series, was launched way back in 1985 when television was becoming into a popular form of entertainment. It became a huge success and viewers looked forward eagerly to watch this serial every Saturday night at prime time. The plot revolved round four older women who lived in Miami as roommates. The episodes were basically about how these women dealt with their lives. Strong humour and tickling wit were the highlights of this all time popular TV comedy serial.
Coming to the characters, the character of Blanche Devereaux, a southern woman, was played by Rue McClanahan. She is a compulsive flirt and likes to date all types of eligible men and she did so with élan. Not a single man in the entire Miami area could deny her. The next character is that of Dorothy Zbornak, a former high school teacher, played by Bea Arthur. The character of Rose Nylund is that of a widow and was played by Betty White. The other girls (women) found Rose to be somewhat boring as she always talks about her former hometown. The fourth character is that of Dorothy's mother known as Sophia Petrillo. Estelle Getty plays the role of Sophia. Aged just over eighty she is a straight speaking Italian immigrant. Her sarcastic wit is the USP of this show.
Golden Girls had a charm of its own and all the characters were perfect in their parts. Each character is different and has an identity that is unique to the character itself. There are instances where there have been repetitions yet Golden Girls never became boring to viewers. Though each character delivered powerful performances, at the end it is Sophia who really stands out.
Almost all the episodes of Golden Girls DVD are hilarious. There are different situations where the characters deliberately created humorous scenes. However not all episodes end on a hilarious note. For example, in the episode named 'The Operation' Dorothy gets inspired to look at life from a different angle. The first episode of Golden Girls was by the name 'The Engagement' in which Sophia joins in with the other three women.
