Golden Girls series on TV-still going strong
The Golden Girls American sitcom was
the brainchild of Brandon Tartikoff, an NBC executive, though it was
Susan Harris who executed his idea and developed it into a TV series.
The show became an instant success with viewers and has still
retained its attraction. Once when Tartikoff was visiting his aunt he
discovered that she had a next door neighbor who was her close
friend. Their interactions were always filled with bickering and
arguments. What struck Tartikoff was that though they argued a lot
with each other they loved each other very much. Tartikoff had an
idea. He thought of transforming the relationship of his aunt with
her next door neighbour into a TV series. That is how 'The Golden
Girls' became a reality.
As years passed, Golden Girls
churned out episode after episode of humour laced pure entertainment.
The first episode under this series was titled 'The Engagement' and
it became an instant hit. As Tartikoff had desired the Golden Girls
TV series not only established his TV channel NBC but also the
producers, the distributors and the actors. The storyline was simple-
four friends with different personalities who always fought with each
other but at the end they are friends again. Golden Girls won many
awards which included the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy
Series and Emmy awards for the lead actors. There were also other
notable awards that Golden Girls won during the course of its run.
The immensely popular and all time hit comedy series 'The Golden
Girls' was one of the longest running comedy serials in America. The
first episode went on air on September 14th 1985. It was aired by
NBC. The series continued up to May 9 1992. Golden Girls received 65
Emmy nominations, 11 Emmy awards, four Golden Globe Awards along with
two Viewers for Quality Television awards. The Golden Girls TV series
was indeed a milestone achievement in the realm of television
entertainment business. The simple storyline that revolved round the
four lead characters along with the high voltage cast took Golden
Girls to the pinnacle of success within a short time.
