Golden
Girls show-raise the curtains again
It all started on
14th September 1985 when an all American situational comedy series
'The Golden Girls' was aired for the first time on television by NBC.
It became an instant success. It was aired every Saturday night at
prime time. The show was all about four single sexually active older
women and how they went about their lives. They lived as roommates
sharing an apartment in Miami. The highlight of the Golden Girls show
was humour laced with sexual undertones. The episodes of this show
discussed topics related to human emotion and experiences.
This charming all
girls show had lovable characters that could instantly connect with
viewers. Every actor had an important part and they performed in a
'make believe' way. Even after so many years Golden Girls is still
viewed by people with appreciation. All the characters from Dorothy
to Sophia to Rose to Blanche stood out in their memorable roles. It's
true that they could never create this magic again in their future
ventures after Golden Girls. It was as if the show and the characters
were made for each other.
The Golden Girls
show was indeed a once in a lifetime experience for viewers and it
was so hilarious that the effect remained for years. Almost all the
episodes started and ended on a humorous note though there were a few
exceptions like the episode titled 'The Operation' where one of the
actors Dorothy becomes inspirational and changes her outlook towards
life.
'The Engagement' was
the first episode of the Golden Girls show and it was aired on 14th
September 1985. The curtains came down on this immensely popular
comedy series on May 9 1992. The actors who played the lead roles of
four older women were Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan and
Estelle Getty. The Golden Girls show was produced by Touchstone
Television and distributed by Buena Vista Television.
The Golden Girls
show won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series along
with many other awards. The leading ladies too had their share of
fame when each of them won an Emmy Award during their tryst with this
show.
