Golden Girls TV collection-vintage stuff
It was in 1985 when the hit TV
comedy series 'The Golden Girls' premiered on NBC. Viewers liked it
immensely because of the raw humour and witty dialogues particularly
of Sophia played by Estelle Getty. All the four characters played
their parts to the best of their capabilities and were highly
appreciated. There were many episodes divided into seasons. Each
episode dealt with a different subject. Some of the subjects that
were discussed in the episodes were on gay marriage, menopause,
impotence, drug addiction, safe sex, domestic violence, child
abandonment, pregnancy, homicide etc. As such the Golden Girls TV
collection contains a series of episodes dealing with an interesting
topic which has relevance to human life.
In the first episode titled 'The
Engagement' Sophia, played by Estelle Getty, decides to live with her
daughter Dorothy, played by Bea Arthur, who lives with her two
friends namely Blanche and Rose. The reason for this decision was
because Sophia's retirement home where Dorothy had put her up gets
destroyed due to fire. The highlight of this episode is the bad
feeling that Rose develops when Harry, one of Blanche's boyfriend,
puts forth his proposal. In between that there are many memorable
hilarious scenes which the viewers liked very much. In another
episode titled 'The Competition' viewers liked watching the bowling
competition between Dorothy and Blanche on one side and Rose and
Sophia on the other side. The so called competition really looked
very intense indeed. There were also other similar episodes which
provided wholesome entertainment to viewers.
The Golden Girls TV collection was a
runaway hit that skyrocketed NBC's ratings in the realm of television
entertainment. It was so popular that people stopped going out on
other engagements on Saturday night at prime time. Other channels
tried their best to face this intense competition thrown by NBC. They
included shows which they thought would stand up to this challenge.
Such was the popularity of the Golden Girls. The success of this TV
collection helped establish a loyal fan base which still exists till
today. There have been numerous reruns of the Golden Girls TV
collection which proved that its popularity has not waned even today.
