Golden Girls TV series-better than the best
The Golden Girls TV series was first
aired by NBC. The first episode 'The Engagement' was aired on 14th
September 1985 and continued up to May 9 1992. The lead roles of four
older women were played by Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan
and Estelle Getty. Touchstone Television was the producer of Golden
Girls and the series was distributed by Buena Vista Television.
Presently the Hallmark Channel and the WE tv is airing this highly
popular series. Golden Girls has been rated under PG (parental
guidance) by the channels that are airing it.
Actually Golden Girls which is an
American sitcom was conceptualized by Brandon Tartikoff, an NBC
executive. However it was Susan Harris who developed it into a TV
series that became an instant success with viewers. The idea to
create such a series came to Tartikoff by chance when he went to
visit his aunt. She had a next door neighbor who happened to be her
best friend. However their interactions were always filled with
bickering and arguments. Inspite of that they loved each other very
much and were the best of friends. Tartikoff keenly observed the
vibes between these two women and suddenly an idea struck his mind.
He decided to make a TV series taking a leaf out of this situation
between his aunt and her friend. He knew that this idea would not
fail and was certain that it held much promise. He was so right. The
rest is as we all say-history.
In the years thereafter Golden Girls
churned out many episodes and each was special in the sense that it
showcased humour at its best. 'The Engagement' was the first episode
to be aired. Just like Tartikoff had witnessed, all the four
characters in the TV series had different personalities and though
they were friends, they always fought with each other but ultimately
their friendship prevailed over their fights.
The TV series won many awards which
included the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series. Even
the four actors won an Emmy Award each. This was indeed an
achievement for both the makers and the performers of the hit TV
series 'The Golden Girls'.
